Listing your business on AZ Business Directory is free. You fill in the form at /add, and your business joins a statewide directory of locally owned Arizona businesses, each with a phone number people can call. It takes a few minutes if you have your basics ready.
What do you need before you start?
Have these in front of you so you can finish in one sitting:
- Your business name, spelled the way it appears on your sign, truck or invoices
- The city you are in, and the cities you serve if you go to customers
- The kind of business, in the words a customer would use ("plumber," "barbershop," "taqueria")
- A phone number you actually answer
- One or two plain sentences about what you do
The phone number matters most. People who find you in a directory usually call. If the number goes to a line nobody picks up, you lose the call. Use the number you would give a neighbor.
What makes a good listing?
A good listing is plain and specific. Say what you do, where, and for whom. Skip slogans.
Compare these two lines. "We offer top-quality solutions for all your needs" tells a reader nothing. "We repair and replace home AC units in Gilbert, Chandler and Mesa" tells them whether to call you.
A few habits help:
- Use your real business name, not a string of keywords.
- Name your services the way customers ask for them.
- Name the cities you serve. Arizona is big, and a Flagstaff customer does not want a Yuma business.
- Mention anything true that sets you apart, like "family run" or "we answer the phone ourselves."
- Leave out claims you cannot back up. A directory works because readers trust what is on it.
What happens after you submit?
Once you submit the form, your listing goes into the directory. If it does not show up after a while, call the office at (602) 396-9443 and they can look into it. Keep the name and number you used so they can find it fast.
What should you do after you are listed?
Keep it right. If your hours, phone number or description change, or you want photos on your page, tell us or call (602) 396-9443 and we update it for you. A page with real hours and real pictures does more than a name and a number.
Also, check your listing once a season. Arizona businesses change hours in summer, and some close for part of it. A listing with the right hours saves you from angry calls.
Is there anything beyond the free listing?
The free listing is the base. There is also a paid Power Partner package for businesses that want more attention. It is $200 a month and includes a full page, the printed booklet, a monthly post on Instagram @azbusinessdirectory, two stories a week, and the newsletter. Details are at /advertise. You do not need it to be listed.
Questions people ask
Does it cost anything to list my business?
No. Listings are free. The paid Power Partner package is optional and costs $200 a month.
Can I list my business if I work from home or travel to customers?
Many Arizona businesses go to customers. In your description, say which cities you serve and what you do. If you are not sure whether your type of business fits, call the office at (602) 396-9443.
What if my business is already on the directory?
Then you do not need to add it again. If anything on it is wrong or out of date, tell us or call (602) 396-9443 and we fix it.
